Autograph letter signed from Emory Washburn, Cambridge, to T. Hervey, Esq. [manuscript], 1861 March 27.

Regarding a request for an autograph Washburn writes, "permit me to quote the words of Macbeth as a lesson for young & old upon the elements of success in life." The quotation follows: "The flighty purpose never is o'ertook / Unless the deed go with it. From this moment / The very firstlings of my heart shall be / The firstlings of my hand." Letter is addressed "Dear Sir."
